Lord Mayor’s Volunteer Awards

Volunteers are an important part of our community and we are extremely fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers in this Town. These awards are Council’s way of letting the volunteers know how much we appreciate what they do for the Town and their fellow residents.

To nominate someone, please fill out the form below, putting forward a name of someone who has demonstrated outstanding volunteerism in one of the following categories (one winner will be chosen per category):


Community / Civic Engagement

This individual is known for actively addressing issues of public concern regarding the Niagara-on-the-Lake community and acting as the voice to be heard on behalf of residents. The ultimate friend and neighbour to all, they view protecting shared values as a top priority and are committed to making positive changes within the Town. Everybody who knows this individual can count on them to step in and help wherever there is a need for support that betters the collective community.

Culture (Arts, Music, Heritage, etc.) 

This individual is passionate about Niagara-on-the-Lake's rich cultural sector, appreciating the finer details that make the Town unique. You can find them volunteering at any arts, music, or cultural event, fundraising or advocating for the importance of the arts, willingly sharing their enthusiasm, and inspiring others to get involved in learning about Niagara-on-the-Lake's arts and heritage.  

Environmental Efforts  

This individual demonstrates outstanding work, leadership, and commitment to environmental excellence within Niagara-on-the-Lake. Their passion for eco-friendly initiatives, both big and small, is making a difference for the health and well-being of the Town and its residents. The ultimate visionary, this individual cares deeply about the future of our planet and the health of future generations.  

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This individual is always thinking of ways to promote inclusivity and ensure diversity is celebrated in Niagara-on-the-Lake. A beacon of compassion, their goal is to help all residents and visitors have a safe and inclusive experience and cultivate a community of kindness, where diversity is seen as a strength. Whether they are volunteering with a committee or non-profit, advocating for equal rights, organizing events that foster an inclusive community, or helping to amplify the voices of marginalized peoples, this person embodies the ideals of bringing people of all backgrounds together.  

Sports and Recreation 

This individual is dedicated to ensuring that sports and recreational activities within Niagara-on-the-Lake are organized and executed with the greatest enthusiasm. Often seen giving their time, experience, and passion on a field, court, or in an arena, their love of sports is evident in everything they do and contagious to all they encounter. 

Volunteer under 16 

This individual is a young representative of Niagara-on-the-Lake who has shown a great interest in improving the community. They have demonstrated excellent leadership skills in taking on volunteer opportunities and encouraging other young voices to get involved. This young individual understands that they have the power to change the future for the better and takes action to do so. Their excitement to lend a helping hand at any time is one of their most noticeable attributes. 

Volunteer under 30  

This individual is committed to being an innovative and passionate resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake, ensuring continuous growth and advancement for their community. Whether they are a young professional, a parent, a student, or an advocate, this individual is quick to volunteer for any important cause or community initiative. They always put quality effort into any volunteer activity they are a part of, showing immense enthusiasm and dedication, making them an excellent candidate for this award. 

Working with Seniors 

This individual is dedicated to improving the lives of our senior community, always looking for new ways to make sure our residents are enjoying their experience in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Whether they are helping to gather or deliver necessities to seniors, ensuring seniors are kept informed and up to date about important news and notices, or advocating for support that benefits the senior population, their thoughtfulness and dedication to the overall wellness of the Town's senior citizens make them an excellent candidate for this award. 

Working with Youth / Education 

This individual is known for being an exceptional mentor for youth and enjoys being a role model for children within the Town. Passionate about shaping young minds and helping children or youth to become the best versions of themselves, this individual is generous with their time and quick to impart their wisdom. This individual enjoys organizing and taking part in educational and skill-building activities designed to inspire, engage, and teach the youth of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Volunteers must reside in Niagara-on-the-Lake and be willing to have their photo published in the newspaper. 

Selection Committee

Nominations will be reviewed by a Selection Committee inclusive of the Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor, CAO, Recreation Supervisor, and Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator.

Please check out the Grading Criteria for more information as to how the Selection Committee will be selecting the winners. 

Contacting & Announcing the Winners

One volunteer will be selected for each category and the winners will be recognized at the Council meeting on Monday, November 22, 2021. Watch the ceremony virtually at https://notl.com/content/livestream-broadcast 

Winners will be contacted by Friday, November 5, 2021.
